My path to medicine began when I was just a child. When my grandmother was diagnosed with severe insulin-dependent diabetes, I became her little helper. I learned to recognize the signs of hypoglycemia and how to draw up and administer insulin injections based on her blood sugar readings, all by age 8. Spending so much time with her made one thing very clear: I wanted to spend my life helping people the way she needed to be helped.
