Step 1: Complete activation and pair the device prior to starting a video visit. Go to NovantHealth.org/TytoSetup to learn more.
Tip To connect you will need a secure Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only) or personal hotspot connection.

Step 2: Open your MyChart mobile app and tap the Menu icon and then tap On-Demand Video Visit.
Tip TytoCare video visits are only available on smartphones and tablets with the MyChart app.

Step 3: Enter location details and select Confirm.
Tip Currently, Tyto video visits are available only in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Step 4: Tap TytoCare Video Visit.

Step 5: Tap Put Me In Line.

Step 6: Briefly describe in a few words your reason for the visit. Then tap Schedule.
Tip Costs vary, depending on your insurance and co-pay.

Step 7:Tap Go to eCheck-In.
Tip If you hit Not Now you will be unable to complete your video visit.

Step 8:Review and complete each page of eCheck-in.
Tip Remember to add your preferred pharmacy for the visit.

Step 9:Once eCheck-in is complete, tap Submit. Wait! You’re not done yet.
Tip If you hit “finish later” at the top right then you will not be able to complete your video visit.

Step 10:Tap Begin Visit and the TytoCare app will launch. You are now waiting for your provider to start the visit.
Tip Hear chimes? This also means your provider is ready for you.

Step 11:Turn on notifications and volume for your MyChart app. Notifications need to be turned on for both MyChart App and Tyto app. You will be notified when your provider is ready to see you.

Complete these steps before your first video visit

Step 1: Download the TytoCare app on your smartphone or tablet.
*Important: Do not sign up for or create a Tyto account.

Step 2: Download the MyChart app on your smartphone. Select Novant Health as your organization. Create an account and/or log in.
If you need help setting up your account, please call 1-844-266-8268 or email MyChart@NovantHealth.org.

Step 3: Tap the Menu icon and then tap the TytoHome Setup option.
This one-time setup will allow MyChart to communicate with TytoCare. Please complete this step before your first visit.

Step 4: Watch the TytoCare setup video tutorial. Turn on your Tyto device to pair it with your Tyto app and Wi-Fi network or mobile hotspot.

Step 5: Your Tyto app will display a QR code. Use your Tyto device to scan the QR code, allowing the device and app to share data. The device will prompt an update to the latest version, which will take about 3 to 5 minutes.

Step 6: Time to practice! Complete the Tyto Academy to practice with your device and learn the exams and best practices. We recommend completing this prior to your first visit.

temperature device
This Tyto device, without add-ons, is used to take your temperature or for a skin exam.

Temperature exam

Tips for a successful exam:

  • Ensure the forehead, or the body part where you are taking the temperature, is free of sweat and hair. • For accuracy, make sure the patient and Tyto device have been in the same room for at least 15 to 20 minutes. Both need to be acclimated to the environment.
  • Point the Tyto device without making contact with the skin (no more than 2 inches).

Skin exam

Tips for a successful exam:

  • Focus on the area of interest by briefly pressing on the Tyto device’s LCD screen.
  • Position the Tyto device between 1.5 and 2 inches above the skin.
  • Control the image brightness using the device’s context-sensitive dropdown menu.

stethoscope
This Tyto device, with the stethoscope add-on, is used for a heart or lung exam or to measure heart rate.

How to use the stethoscope

Tips for a successful exam:

  • Place the stethoscope directly on your skin, if possible, or put it on a thin layer of clothing.
  • Apply enough pressure to put the stethoscope in full contact with and parallel to your skin’s surface.
  • Eliminate or minimize surrounding noise.

otoscope
This Tyto device, with the otoscope add-on, is used for an ear exam.

How to use the otoscope

Tips for a successful exam:

  • Use the appropriate ear piece, called a speculum (4mm = adult; 3mm = child).
  • Pull ear backward and then up to straighten the ear canal.
  • Control image brightness using the device’s context-sensitive dropdown menu.
  • If necessary, use a medically approved technique to clear wax from the ear canal.

tongue depressor
This Tyto device, with the tongue depressor add-on, can be used for a throat exam.

Throat exam

Tips for a successful exam:

  • Open mouth wide.
  • Using the tongue depressor is optional.
  • Control the image brightness using the device’s context-sensitive dropdown menu.

How to clean your TytoCare device

Sanitize exterior surfaces using standard 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes.

  • To disinfect the accessories (stethoscope, otoscope and reusables), use germicidal wipes such as PDI-Sani-Cloth bleach germicidal disposable wipes or PDI San-Cloth AF3.

Please call your doctor’s office or send your provider a message on MyChart to request a scheduled Tyto video visit. Once your visit is scheduled, you will be able to access it from the appointments section of your MyChart account. 

Please note: Complete your Tyto video visit on mobile or tablet for optimal experience. eCheck-In is available 3 days prior to your scheduled Tyto video visit.

Step 1: 30 minutes or less prior to your visit, sign into your MyChart account on your mobile device or tablet.

Step 2: Tap Begin Visit. If you have not already completed eCheck-In, a popup message will appear and tap Go To eCheck-In

Step 3: Review and complete each page of eCheck-in.
Tip Remember to add your preferred pharmacy for the visit.

Step 4: Once eCheck-In is complete, tap Submit. Click the X in the upper right-hand corner to return to appointment details page.

Step 5: See eCheck-in is complete. Tap Begin Visit and the TytoCare app will launch. You are now waiting for your provider to start the visit.

Step 6: Turn on notifications and volume for your MyChart app. Notifications need to be turned on for both MyChart App and Tyto app. You will be notified when your provider is ready to see you.
