Your time can make a difference
If you have ever visited Novant Health Matthews Medical Center, no doubt you have noticed our many volunteers that play an important role in the daily operations of our hospital.
Matthews Medical Center volunteers provide an invaluable community service that is appreciated by everyone they encounter. The also enjoy camaraderie with others who share the same interest in serving people in a healthcare setting. We hope you’ll consider joining this special group. No experience is necessary.
As a volunteer you’ll help to present the friendly, caring face we’re know for by assisting patients and visitors in many ways, including:
• Serving at reception desks and information centers
• Giving patients and visitors directions and helping them find their way
• Transporting patients throughout the hospital
• Providing non-clinical assistance to various departments within the hospital
• Assisting in the hospital gift shop and making welcome deliveries to patient rooms

Our Junior Volunteer Program offers an opportunity for teens, ages 14 to 18 (9th – 12th grade), to serve after school and during the summer. Our teen volunteers are trained and supervised by a Volunteer Coordinator and they perform many of the same duties as adult volunteers.
Junior Volunteers can learn about healthcare by assisting staff, visitors and patients with non-medical tasks. Junior Volunteers must be able to follow directions, accept supervision and work independently. We are looking for mature students who can make a reliable commitment of one shift per week for an entire school year or summer program.
Applications for the school year Junior Volunteer Program are accepted between August 1st and September 15th. Applications for the summer program are accepted between February 1st and March 15th. To apply to be a junior volunteer, please submit the online Junior Volunteer Application.
