Our services

Novant Health Pediatric Surgery – Randolph brings together a team of surgical specialists to provide the most advanced surgical care available to children of all ages. Whether your child has an acute condition that requires immediate surgery, or a congenital condition (present since birth) where surgery is part of a treatment plan, we are here for you. We will explain treatment options, answer all of your questions, explain procedures in age-appropriate ways to your child, and see you through both your child’s procedure and their recovery.

Conditions we regularly address include:

  • Appendicitis (inflamed appendix)
  • Hernia (inguinal, umbilical or epigastric; holes or weaknesses in muscle walls that allow body organs or fluids to bulge into areas where they are not supposed to be)
  • Chest wall deformities (including pectus excavatum and carinatum)
  • Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM or CPAM; the presence of abnormal lung tissue)
  • Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (a weakness in the diaphragm present since birth)
  • Gastroschisis (a hole in the abdominal wall near the belly button present since birth)
  • Omphalocele (a condition where internal organs protrude into the umbilical cord at birth)
  • Pulmonary sequestration (a condition marked by nonfunctional lung tissue)
  • Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT; a benign tumor that grows on a baby’s tailbone before birth)

Additional services

Whenever possible, we offer minimally invasive surgery options, which have shorter recovery times and lower risk of infection as compared to some traditional procedures.

We offer prenatal consultations to expectant parents who learn their child might need surgery. We will answer your questions and work with the rest of your obstetric and delivery team to ensure your baby receives comprehensive, continuous care.
