Our Services

The general surgery providers at Novant Health Salem Surgical Associates – High Point offer surgical procedures to diagnose or treat a wide range of health concerns. You will benefit from their years of experience and from access to the most advanced surgical tools available. Whether a traditional surgical option or a minimally invasive procedure is right for you, our providers can offer just the care you need to speed recovery or arrive at a prompt diagnosis.

General surgery procedures our providers regularly complete include:

  • Appendectomy (a surgery to remove the appendix, a tube that branches off the large intestine)
  • Cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder, a structure located under the liver that stores and concentrates bile)
  • Excisions of lesions and masses (from the skin or within the body)
  • Gastric procedures (to address severe acid reflux, stomach cancer or peptic ulcers; can include gastric resection to remove all or part of the stomach)
  • Hernia treatment (to repair an umbilical, inguinal, femoral, hiatal or spigelian hernia; a weakness in a muscle wall that allows a section of intestine or other organ to bulge out)
  • Splenectomy (removal of all or part of the spleen, an organ that filters blood)
  • Tube or catheter placement (to give providers access to veins and organs without unnecessary needle stick or repetitive invasive procedures; devices placed including portacaths, Tenckhoff caths, Port-A-Grams, JJ tubes, feeding tubes and chest tubes)
  • Ulcer repair (to address sores found in the stomach or upper small intestine)
  • Wound care (for wounds that can be helped by vacuum dressings, or to investigate why a wound is not healing)

Colorectal surgeries and procedures we offer include:

  • Colonoscopy procedures (to examine the large intestine and access it with minimally invasive surgical instruments)
  • Rectal tumor procedures (to remove tumors in the rectum)
  • Hemorrhoid surgery (to remove swollen veins around the anus)
  • Anal fissure and fistula surgery (to repair tears in the anus or infected cavities near the anus)
  • Colon and small bowel resection (to remove cancerous or inflamed sections of the colon and small bowel)
  • Rectal prolapse surgery (a procedure to address the lower end of the rectum protruding out of the anus)

Surgery is often recommended as a first step in a cancer treatment plan. Our providers regularly complete:

  • Colorectal cancer surgery (the removal of cancerous cells along with adjacent sections of the colon or rectum)
  • Lymph node excision (the surgical removal of a lymph node to determine the presence of cancerous cells or remove cancerous cells)
  • Pancreatic cancer surgery (the removal of all or part of the pancreas, as well as associated surgeries to bypass bile ducts or reroute the stomach)
  • Sarcoma surgery (to address cancers involving bone, cartilage, fat, muscle or vascular tissue)
  • Skin cancer surgery (to diagnose or remove cancerous cells, as well as scar revision surgery to make the evidence of skin cancer less noticeable)
  • Splenectomy (if the spleen is affected by a cancer)
  • Stomach cancer surgery (to diagnose or remove cancerous cells; could involve the removal of all or part of the stomach, along with other infected organs and lymph nodes nearby)
  • Thyroid cancer surgery (to remove all or part of the thyroid gland in the neck)

Minimally invasive surgical procedures are often alternatives to traditional surgery, reducing recovery time and risk of infection. Our providers use advanced minimally invasive surgery techniques including the da Vinci Surgical System whenever possible.
