Baby Café can help you protect your newborn’s health

Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers can connect with a lactation consultant and other new moms at Novant Health’s Baby Café locations. Baby Café USA is a national organization that offers free breastfeeding support and other resources to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

In January 2018, the state’s first Baby Café opened at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center. The care you provide during your child’s first months can be essential for long-term health. When you breastfeed your infant, you help prevent health conditions such as sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and even allergies later in life. Baby Cafés are usually open at least once a week. You can weigh your baby, get help with positioning and latching your baby, and discuss strategies for pumping and storing milk if you’re returning to work or school. The American Academy of Pediatrics currently recommends breastfeeding your baby for at least a year to promote healthy weight gain and prevent common childhood infections.

Novant Health has made the careful decision to postpone all in-person community events and classes until further notice. This includes any program or event scheduled within a Novant Health facility such as support groups, community meetings and all maternity programs including lactation classes, facility tours and Baby Cafés. Contact your Novant Health event coordinator for more details. Learn about additional visitor restrictions.
