Baby Café can help you meet your breastfeeding goal
Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers can connect with a lactation consultant and other new parents at Novant Health’s Baby Café locations. Baby Café USA is a national organization that offers free breastfeeding support and other resources to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
In January 2018, the state’s first Baby Café opened at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center. We now offer locations in the Winston and Charlotte markets, and virtually. Baby Cafés are usually open at least once a week and always free. At Baby Café, you can:
- Weigh your baby for milk intake
- Get help with positioning and latching your baby
- Discuss strategies for pumping and storing milk if you’re returning to work or school
- Connect with other parents throughout their breastfeeding journeys
The care you provide during your child’s first months can be essential for long-term health. When you breastfeed your infant, you help prevent health conditions such as sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and even allergies later in life. The American Academy of Pediatrics currently recommends breastfeeding your baby for at least a year to promote healthy weight gain and prevent common childhood infections.
