Give your baby a healthier start by breastfeeding

Helping you find success at breastfeeding is important to us for so many reasons. Breastfeeding helps create a bond between mother and child. Your baby also will likely enjoy better infant and child health, growth and development when breastfed. As a food source, breast milk is nutritionally complete, digested easily and provides antibodies to protect your baby against sickness.

While lactation has many benefits, learning to nurse your baby can take time, practice and patience. If you are planning a family or expecting a baby and would like to know more about your options for feeding, talk with our counselors. Our services are open to the public without a referral.

If you are interested in breastfeeding, ask about these services at a Novant Health medical center in your community:

  • Prenatal breastfeeding classes
  • Prenatal breast assessment
  • Breastfeeding consultations
  • Back-to-work appointments
  • Rental and sales of breast pumps, as well as feeding supplies and other breastfeeding aids
  • Rental of baby scales
Other resources

At Novant Health Nursing Mother’s Place, our international board-certified lactation consultants can teach you techniques for a successful nursing experience, provide follow-up contacts, and promote confidence in your nursing abilities.

Our Baby-Friendly journey

Most Novant Health medical centers are baby-friendly hospitals, having met international standards to qualify for the designation. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative is a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund to encourage and recognize hospitals and birthing centers that encourage and support parents who want to breastfeed their babies.
