Customized care for children and young adults
Novant Health St. Jude Affiliate Clinic is a family-centered, comprehensive outpatient clinic for children and young adults with cancer and blood disorders. Based in Charlotte, N.C., our pediatric hematologist-oncologists are among the most skilled in the region and lead a multidisciplinary team of specially trained nurses, child life specialists, medical social workers and community resource professionals.
Specialized care for inpatient treatment
Often, treatment for pediatric cancer includes an overnight stay in the hospital. If your child needs to be hospitalized, you can take comfort in knowing he or she will be well cared for at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital. This hospital, located within Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, provides patients with a dedicated team of pediatric experts who deliver care in a child-friendly environment that decreases anxiety and fosters healing.
Cancer support for your child and your family
Clinics offer two support groups for pediatric and young adult patients and their families. The ALL OUT (Always Living Life with our Own Unique Twist) group is open to teens and young adults with a cancer diagnosis. The Family Ties support group is open to families who have a child with cancer.
Patients and families can also benefit from other support services offered at Novant Health Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center in Charlotte, N.C., including counseling, support groups, case management, educational seminars and a lending boutique.
Clinical trials offer treatments not widely available
Our pediatric patients benefit from the latest advancements in cancer care and research through our membership in the Children’s Oncology Group, a national leader in pediatric cancer research.
Child life services make life easier
Our child life specialists are trained in child development and are considered valuable members of the medical team. Their training enables them to use techniques such as medical play to minimize the psychological trauma that a cancer diagnosis may bring.
Young adults and cancer
Sometimes the term pediatric cancer can be misleading, as young adults into their late 20s can still be diagnosed with pediatric forms of cancer. These individuals require unique ways of treatment that differ from a child or an adult. We offer a young adult program at our Cancer Center in Charlotte, N.C. designed to fulfill this special population’s needs, both clinically and emotionally.
