I am a medical oncologist and a cancer survivor.

I arrived at medical school determined to be a pediatrician. I realized pretty quickly that it wasn't for me. Internal medicine fascinated me, and as I went through my training I realized that cancer medicine was developing at lightning speed. It also became quite clear that cancer patients were the most lovely people to care for.

Those two pillars of my training have not changed to this day. I have seen enormous changes and progress occur in healthcare since I started practicing and feel confident we are winning the war against cancer.

In 2004, I added my name to the list of cancer survivors. My journey has made me immensely better at caring for cancer patients. There are some things that you cannot understand unless you have gone through them. I have a bond with the thousands of cancer patients I've crossed paths with over the years, and it helps me provide better care every day.

My job and the care I provide to patients are a huge part of my life. I consider myself blessed without measure, and I have a wonderful family filled with my wife, sons, and grandchildren. My hobbies include fitness, hunting and fishing.
