Growing up in Manhattan, I watched my brother manage life with diabetes and found myself drawn to understanding the science behind illness rather than simply accepting it. That early experience, combined with a deep passion for science - and maybe a little inspiration from Dr. McCoy of Star Trek - set me on the path to medicine.
