Visitor restrictions

Are you planning to accompany or visit a patient of Novant Health? We’re taking extra steps to keep you and others safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

Visitation requirements and exceptions

Due to the widespread prevalence of respiratory viruses such as RSV and flu among young children, Novant Health will limit the visitation age in all of our hospitals effective Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 a.m. At that time, no visitors under 13 will be allowed in our hospitals except in emergency or end-of-life circumstances. This applies to any children who are visiting patients, including siblings, friends or family members. It does not apply to children who are seeking care. Children also will be restricted from attending classes in or touring the hospitals.

Visitors may be allowed if they are:

  • Healthy, with no symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Able to properly wear a mask at all times, including while in the patient’s room or exam room.
  • Age 13 years or older for Novant Health hospitals, imaging centers and outpatient surgery centers unless their situation meets a specific exception. Children of all ages are permitted to accompany adults to appointments at doctor’s offices and clinics if childcare is not available.

In general, most patients hospitalized at Novant Health facilities in North Carolina will be allowed to have an unrestricted number of visitors. Our team may limit the number of visitors at a time in any area or patient room due to space, care concerns or to comply with safety protocols.

In most units of our hospitals, visiting hours end at 10 p.m. unless the visitor is spending the night.
