Treated like family
Submitted by Julie Gammelgard
We live in California, and my husband, Jason Gammelgard, was going to Charlotte on a business trip. On the flight there, he started feeling very bad. By the time he arrived at his hotel, he was worse. The hotel sent him to the emergency department at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. The staff in the ED were receptive and friendly, and he was seen and diagnosed very quickly. The diagnosis – appendicitis. His appendix had to come out. As soon as I got word of this, I caught a red-eye flight to be with him.
Dr. Carl Lowe, Paul’s surgeon, was wonderful! He took the time to answer all our questions, and we were so thankful to have a doctor who was so kind. The staff on our floor were friendly as well. We were treated like family! The nurses and staff were so kind, and even though we were across the country from our family, we felt very cared for.
Our nurses, Chris Surratt, RN, and Nailya (Nellie) Bell, RN, were so professional and caring at the same time. This was a very scary experience, and the staff at the hospital made it so much easier on us. My husband recovered quickly, and we are now home and back to a normal life. Thank you so much for taking good care of us!
