WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health is pleased to announce that four hospitals in
its greater Winston-Salem market have recently received Magnet status, a prestigious
honor for nursing programs. These programs have been recognized for excellence
and quality in nursing care by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s
Magnet Recognition Program.
Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, Novant Health
Kernersville Medical Center, Novant Health Medical Park Hospital and Novant
Health Clemmons Medical Center each achieved the elite designation. Only 8% of
hospitals nationwide are recognized as Magnet hospitals.
This year marks Clemmons Medical Center’s first recognition
as a separate campus under Forsyth Medical Center’s designation. This is Forsyth
Medical Center’s fourth time achieving the distinction, an achievement that
underscores a continued commitment to meet the healthcare needs of patients and
the local community. Kernersville Medical Center and Medical Park Hospital
joined Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center’s Magnet designation as additional
campuses in 2014 and each earned renewal this year.
“Earning Magnet recognition has been a great source of pride
for our nurses and our hospitals since Forsyth Medical Center became one of the
first 100 hospitals in the country to achieve this distinction back in 2004,”
said Janet Bright, vice president and chief nursing officer for Novant Health’s
greater Winston-Salem market. “Having our Magnet designation renewed is a
reflection of our tremendous nursing teams and showcases our organization’s
dedication to the patients and families who benefit every day from our
outstanding care delivery.”
Published research has shown that hospitals with Magnet recognition
have positive outcomes for patients, nurses and the workplace. Patients
receiving care at Magnet recognized hospitals have been recorded as
experiencing lower mortality rates and greater satisfaction during their stay
and are able to go home sooner.
This news of Magnet recognition comes on the heels of Novant
announcement of a significant $181.4 million community
investment toward Forsyth Medical Center.
Novant Health’s Magnet journey in Winston-Salem
Forsyth Medical Center’s division of nursing started the
journey toward achieving Magnet recognition in 1999. In January 2004, Forsyth

first Magnet designated facility in the Novant Health system.
Novant Health’s hospitals in the greater Charlotte market
are up for system redesignation this year. Novant Health UVA Health System
