Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation awarded $350,000 from Cannon Charitable Interests

SALISBURY, N.C.– Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation recently received grants totaling $350,000 from Cannon Charitable Interests. One grant will go toward the new Cancer Care Center, while the other will be used to purchase a stereotactic 3D breast biopsy system for an imaging center.

The award from Charles A. Cannon Charitable Trusts is for $200,000. That grant will help build the $24 million Cancer Care Center at the corner of Mahaley and Mocksville avenues across from the hospital. Services at the new Cancer Care Center will include medical and radiation oncology, PET imaging, infusion center, lab, imaging and screening, nurse navigation, integrative medicine, genetic counseling, psychosocial support and palliative care. An on-site resource library, pharmacy, conference room, classroom and the “Look Good, Feel Good” boutique also will be offered at the center.

Novant Health Imaging Julian Road will receive a stereotactic 3D breast biopsy system through The Cannon Foundation grant, worth $150,000. The system, which will be installed by September, will allow clinicians to offer a full schedule of biopsy procedures while also offering screening diagnostic procedures in a separate room.

Established in 1943, The Cannon Foundation Inc. is part of the philanthropic legacy of Charles A. Cannon, industrialist and humanitarian, who was president and chairman of Cannon Mills Company for more than half a century. Cannon  stablished the Charitable Trusts to carry on the works in which he was interested during his lifetime. The trusts include named beneficiaries, which are the only organizations that may request funding.
