Volunteers and therapy dogs comfort patients and staff

Pam Guion and Governor aim to share the love. For the past five years, they’ve roamed the halls of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center raising the spirits of patients and staff. Guion, a retired teacher, said she finds her work as a volunteer very rewarding. “There’s never been a day that I haven’t been thankful I’ve come,” she said. For patients, visits with Guion and “Gov,” her teddy bear of a golden retriever, can provide companionship and comfort even in difficult circumstances. During the visits, nurses and other staff will stop their rounds to give Gov a good rub behind the ears. The pair takes part in Novant Health’s pet therapy program and Wagging Wednesdays. Watch this video to learn more about their story.
