Gold Plus and Silver Plus awards

• American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association
  These awards recognize a commitment and success at the hospital level to ensure patients receive the most appropriate treatment for stroke and heart failure. Several Novant Health hospitals earned gold and silver awards.

Gold Achievement Award

• American Heart Association Mission: Lifeline Program
  This award recognizes Novant Health for outstanding performance meeting or exceeding therapy recommendations in treating patients who have a life-threatening STEMI (ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction) heart attack. With this type of heart attack, a coronary artery has become blocked, leaving a large part of the heart without blood.

Health Equity Award

• Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
  Novant Health earned recognition in 2018 for reducing a healthcare disparity among its patients. By focusing on available data, our medical teams reduced pneumonia readmission rates for African Americans by 50% within a six-month period. Within 12 months, the organization had eliminated the disparity between African American and Caucasians, according to Vizient, a healthcare performance improvement company that nominated Novant Health. The program reduced the pneumonia readmission rate for both populations by using data to better understand patient needs. For that reason, Vizient described the project as a leading example for other organizations to follow.

Best in the nation nonprofit diversity innovator

• National Association of Corporate Directors
  Novant Health’s board of trustees was one of five boards honored at the second annual NACD NXT™ Recognition Awards and named best in the nation for nonprofits. The National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) is the authority on boardroom practices representing more than 20,000 corporate board members. The NACD NXT recognition, part of NACD’s NXT initiative, applauds exemplary board-leadership practices that promote greater diversity and inclusion, ultimately fostering long-term value creation. Best Maternity Hospitals in the nation for 2020

• Newsweek and The Leapfrog Group
  Six Novant Health medical centers have been recognized as Best Maternity Hospitals in the nation for 2020 — the most of any North Carolina-based healthcare system. This elite designation is given by Newsweek and The Leapfrog Group. Hospitals that earn this designation have low rates for cesarean section, episiotomy and early elective deliveries. These maternity programs also follow crucial protocols to protect mothers and babies. We’re proud of this recognition, but we’re even more proud of what it means: We deliver the safest, highest-quality maternity care for moms and babies in our communities.

Chest Pain Center Accreditation

• American College of Cardiology
  Accreditation for hospital cardiovascular teams focuses on improving efficiency and effectiveness of care in treating acute coronary syndrome, a condition where decreased blood flow causes damage to the heart.

Magnet Recognition Program

• American Nurses Credentialing Center
  This program recognizes nursing excellence. In addition to improving outcomes for patients, the program focuses on improving patient satisfaction.

National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers

• American College of Surgeons
  Organizations that earn accreditation seek to provide efficient and contemporary breast care, based on scientific evidence about what works best for patients.

Baby Friendly Designation

• World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund
  The initiative allows organizations to join a global effort to adopt policies and practices that increase the chances for babies to be exclusively breastfed for their first six months.

Leaders in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality

• Human Rights Campaign Foundation
  Novant Health has earned multiple recognitions from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation for having more than 10 facilities designated as “Leaders in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality.” Facilities are evaluated based on four criteria: patient-centered care, patient services and support, team member policies and patient and community engagement. The HRC Foundation is part of the nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization. We first earned this recognition in 2017.
