Visiting a Hemby patient

Providing a warm and healing environment for your child

Welcome to Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital. We’re happy that you’re able to visit your loved one during his or her stay with us. We know visitors play a vital role in helping create a warm and healing environment for our patients. Your presence is an important part of the recovery process because you provide the comfort and support of home.

Below you will find information to help ensure that visiting your loved one is as convenient and stress-free as possible.

Calling Hemby Children’s Hospital

You can locate a patient or a visitor by calling 704-384-4000. This number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Due to patient confidentiality, operators do not report on the conditions of patients. They may, however, transfer calls to a nurses' station.

Visiting hours

While visitors are always encouraged and welcomed at almost all hours of the day, each pediatric area of the hospital has different visiting hours and restrictions to ensure our patients are provided with a restful atmosphere during the nighttime hours.

General pediatric floor

Visitors of all ages are welcome 24 hours a day on the general pediatric floor. For more information, call the nurses' station at 704-384-4021.

Pediatric intensive care unit

Each pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) patient may have two bedside visitors at a time; other visitors can wait in the PICU waiting room. Siblings and friends age 11 and older are permitted to visit. From 9 p.m. to 8 a.m., we request that visitors be limited to immediate family members. We have a daily quiet hour from 3 to 4 p.m. During that time we ask that there is minimal activity of visitors in and out of the PICU. For more information, call the nurses' station at 704-384-7024.

Neonatal intensive care unit

Family members and friends are welcome to visit at all times. We ask that all visitors be over age 13 and be accompanied by one of the baby’s parents at all times. For more information, call the nurses' station at 704-384-4944.
