Nearly everyone who goes into cardiac arrest outside a hospital will die, according to the American Heart Association.   Nate Taylor, a 46-year-old attorney, husband and father of two, fell into the lucky 10 percent that lives.

Thanks to a set of extraordinary circumstances , the first person at his side after he collapsed during an 8K race in his neighborhood was Elaine Barnes, a 62-year-old cardiac rehab nurse at Novant Health.   Barnes knew she had to act fast, or else he would die within minutes. CPR and quick thinking saved this man’s life. Little did they know that was only the beginning of their relationship. Watch the video and hear their story.
