You have specialized care available should you need it when you are pregnant

A smooth, uneventful pregnancy is what most couples hope for. Your joy over the approaching birth of your child can quickly shift if you experience a medical emergency. Our women’s unit exists to provide the specialized care you need should risky complications occur during your pregnancy.

Many women come to us from our prenatal assessment center or obstetrics emergency department when they have a medical condition that could put their life or their child’s at risk. High blood pressure, pain or bleeding can occur before or after your child arrives. The women’s unit is designed to give you a longer stay than the obstetrics emergency department and more intensive care than the mother baby unit.

If you have a complication during or after your pregnancy, a maternal-fetal medicine physician is available as needed to partner with your ob-gyn physician to care for you. Some of the conditions we treat in the women’s unit include:

  • Preterm labor
  • Preeclampsia
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Labor induction
