Together, we're growing healthy families

As a resident of Forsyth County, you are entitled to a free in-home nurse visit courtesy of Forsyth Connects, a department of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. Our team is available to connect with every mom (and father) shortly after birth when baby is 2-4 weeks old. Depending on your family's unique needs, a registered nurse may come out to visit 1-3 times at your convenience.

Our mission is to provide support for both you and your baby and to connect you with resources that nurture your whole family. Having a new baby affects many areas of a family’s life. Our remarkable nurses are trained to explain resources in our community and be there to answer questions about your health and your baby’s health.

Here are a few examples of how our nurses can help:

  • Baby weight check
  • Mom health check
  • Breastfeeding help
  • Back-to-work support
  • Parent/infant bonding
  • Management of infant crying
  • Playgroups & parent support groups
  • Healthy home connections
  • Postpartum depression/anxiety screening

Research shows that when families participate in this program model, mothers feel less anxious and their babies need less emergency care at hospitals. This all adds up to a positive impact on our community. It’s about planting seeds for the future.

Breastfeeding and your baby

nurse with mom and baby breastfeedingNot only can breastfeeding be a rewarding and nurturing experience, but it also offers many health benefits for your growing baby.

Breast milk is nutritionally complete, digested easily and provides a natural antibody to protect your baby against infections.

In addition, breastfeeding is more economical than formula feeding and helps promote optimal infant and child health, growth and development.

However, learning to nurse can take time, practice and patience. That’s why we have a variety of breastfeeding experts and services available to you and your family, including:

    • Prenatal breastfeeding classes
    • Prenatal assessment
    • Breastfeeding consultations
    • Back-to-work appointments
    • Breast pumps, feeding supplies and breastfeeding aids
