Our services

Novant Health Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine – Winston-Salem cares for patients of all ages with nonhealing or difficult-to-heal wounds. We offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy to adults to treat soft-tissue radiation injuries, as well as some non-healing wounds. Our providers have devoted their careers to helping patients with injuries or surgical wounds that are difficult to heal..

Wounds we care for include:

  • Venous leg ulcers
  • Foot ulcers caused by diabetes or poor circulation
  • Surgical wounds
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Radiation burns
  • First- and second-degree burns

Wound care services and wound treatments we offer include:

  • Advanced wound care dressings
  • Bioengineered skin substitutes
  • Antibiotic therapy
  • Negative pressure therapy
  • Compression therapy
  • Bedside wound debridement
  • Ankle-brachial index testing (to evaluate blood flow)

For adult patients, we offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Often, wounds fail to heal because of low oxygen levels in wounded tissue. This can occur when diabetes, peripheral arterial disease or radiation treatment has damaged small blood vessels. Only 21 percent of the air we breathe is oxygen. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy exposes the body to 100 percent pure oxygen using a hyperbaric chamber. It is often used to treat:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Chronic refractory osteomyelitis (a recurrent bone infection)
  • Delayed radiation soft tissue injury
  • Osteoradionecrosis (bone death due to radiation)
  • Compromised skin grafts/flaps

Preserving limbs is our top priority. We work closely with providers in the limb preservation program at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center too.
