Novant Health Pulmonary & Critical Care – SouthPark serves adults suffering from chronic lung conditions and acute breathing problems. Our providers will evaluate your lung health and identify factors that could be affecting your ability to breathe. If you smoke, our providers have resources to help you quit. Whether you are managing health-related changes to your lifestyle or inherited conditions, our team will work with you to determine the best way to treat or manage your condition, to help you remain as active and healthy as possible.

Should you need care for a respiratory concern while at a Novant Health hospital, you can continue your care seamlessly after discharge as an outpatient in our clinic. Conditions we regularly assess and treat include:

  • Asthma (a respiratory condition that makes breathing difficult)
  • Bronchitis (inflammation of the bronchial tubes that often causes coughing)
  • Emphysema (a condition where damaged air sacs in the lungs cause breathlessness)
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD; a condition in which constricted airways cause difficulty or discomfort in breathing)
  • Pulmonary fibrosis (a lung disease caused by damaged or scarred lung tissue)
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS; a condition in which fluid reaches the lungs, making breathing difficult)
  • Cystic fibrosis (a hereditary disease in which the body produces mucus that can clog the lungs)
  • Sleep apnea (interruptions in breathing during sleep)

Services we offer include:

  • Care before and after lung transplants
  • Pulmonary function testing (to evaluate lung function; often used to assess the impact of diseases or the effects of environmental exposures; can be required before surgery or starting some types of employment)
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation (a combination of education and exercises to help patients with chronic lung disease improve lung function)
  • Interventional bronchoscopy (minimally invasive procedures aimed at improving lung function)
  • Sleep medicine (the evaluation and management of breathing problems, including snoring and sleep apnea, during sleep)
  • Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) prescriptions and management
  • Airway management (a medical procedure done to prevent or lessen airway obstruction)
  • Smoking (tobacco) cessation counseling and resources
