If your child has pain or discomfort caused by a gastrointestinal issue, or if a nutritional concern is getting in the way of growth or development, Novant Health Gastroenterology – Eastover is here to help. Our care team sees patients from birth through the teenage years. You can get help for your child for common to complex digestive and nutritional conditions, as well as disorders of the liver and pancreas. We work to listen to the concerns of both you and your child, and work with you to determine the treatment or management plan that works best for your family.
Conditions we regularly treat include:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, or acid reflux)

- Infantile colic (common cause of discomfort in newborns)

- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

- Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (inflammatory bowel diseases)
- Allergic gastrointestinal disorder (a digestive problem caused by an allergic reaction)
- Rectal bleeding
- Celiac disease (sensitivity to gluten)
- Jaundice (a buildup of bilirubin in the blood marked by a yellowing of the skin)
- Hepatitis (inflammation of the liver)
- Fatty liver disease (extra fat in the liver)

- Failure to thrive (insufficient weight gain or too much weight loss)
- Cows-milk protein intolerance (common food allergy in babies)
- Pancreatic insufficiency (condition in which the pancreas does not produce enough enzymes to digest food)

- Short bowel syndrome (disorder of the small intestine leading to diarrhea and weight loss)
Our providers order screening tests or procedures when necessary to accurately diagnose or investigate a concern, or to help address a problem. These tests and procedures are available at a number of convenient locations in the Charlotte area. We will talk with you about location and scheduling before your appointment date is set. Tests and procedures regularly ordered by our providers include:
- Upper endoscopy/ EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy; a test to examine the upper digestive tract)
- Colonoscopy (a test to examine the lower digestive tract)
- Capsule endoscopy (a procedure that uses a very small wireless camera to take images of the digestive tract)
- pH probe (a test to determine the pH, or acid, level of the digestive tract)
- Bravo pH monitoring (a test to measure reflux symptoms)
- Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube placement (feeding tube placed into the stomach)
- Manual disimpaction (for constipation relief)
