I am board-certified in orthopedic surgery and specialize primarily in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, with additional subspecialty interest and training in hip arthroscopy and hip preservation surgery.

Growing up in rural North Carolina, I saw the experiences of my grandparents and parents as they sought help with chronic health problems. I remember thinking how wonderful it would be to make a career of helping them, or people like them, get the best care available.

I focused on orthopedic surgery in medical school after learning how dramatically it can improve someone's life by relieving pain and improving function. I traveled across the country and internationally to train under the best surgeons at the best hospitals. My goal was to bring an elite level of care back home.

I have published multiple papers about clinical outcomes in shoulder replacement surgery (shoulder arthroplasty) and served as a peer reviewer for the journals Arthroscopy and American Journal of Sports Medicine. I am also an active volunteer with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Perhaps the most valuable skill I can offer, however, is my ability to listen to and understand people from varied backgrounds. These skills are critical, because the most effective healthcare comes from a partnership between provider and the patient. Being a good listener has allowed me to help a variety of patients, ranging from retirees looking for relief from osteoarthritis to professional and Division I athletes eager to resume competition.

Regardless of your circumstances, you can rest assured that I won't suggest surgery if I think less invasive therapies will work just as well or better.

When not working, I enjoy travel, outdoor activities, church and watching Wake Forest sports. I am married with no children.
