College of pharmacy: UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy
Area of interest: Pharmacy Operations, Cardiology, Population Health, Informatics and Automation
Research project: Evaluation of readmission rates in patients with atrial fibrillation status post PCI discharged on antithrombotic therapy
Why Novant: Prior to pharmacy school, my husband and I had already decided that Winston was home, so naturally Novant was always high on my list. The focus of the PGY1 year was on acute care, an area in which I was interested in strengthening my knowledge, and each experience was very individualized. During my interview, I felt very comfortable with the preceptors and program directors, and it was very clear that the support and success of residents was of utmost importance. I was also excited for the unique opportunity to train as a pharmacy leader in a large corporate health system and to further my education through the Pfeiffer MHA program.
One thing you like to do in Winston-Salem: I love going on adventures with my family and friends. Whether that be biking the Greenways, Hobby Park, or Tanglewood mountain bike trails, boxing at Title Boxing Club in Clemmons, or enjoying a meal or craft beer at one of the many incredible restaurants or breweries that Winston has to offer!

Research project: Impact of an electronic health record driven prescription integrity strategy at an integrated health-system specialty pharmacy
Why Novant: I chose Novant Health because of the organization’s inclusive culture and commitment to pharmacy practice advancement. Also, a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration allows Health-System Pharmacy Administration (HSPA) residents to expand their understanding of leadership and financial management. Novant Health strides in innovation and increasing healthcare access to the people of North Carolina. I am proud to be a part of such a talented and determined team of healthcare professionals.
One thing you like to do in Charlotte, NC: My favorite pastime is exploring parks and national landmarks in Charlotte. As a Houston native, I was amazed by Charlotte’s massive and stunning nature landscapes. Many of them are within driving distance from the Presbyterian Medical Center and are great places to exercise or read a novel. Also, artwork and historical landmarks are dispersed throughout Charlotte and are neat discoveries as you wander the city.
