School of Pharmacy: Virginia Commonwealth University – Richmond, VA
Area of interest: Ambulatory Care, Geriatrics, Anticoagulation
Research Project: Impact of clinical pharmacists on initiation of Sodium Glucose Co-transport-2 Inhibitor (SGLT2-I) therapy in a heart failure population
Why Novant: The main reasons that I chose Novant Health include the strong focus in ambulatory care and the endless opportunities this program provides within this focus. The preceptors at Novant are passionate and heavily invested in developing their residents to become proficient healthcare providers. This residency provides numerous opportunity outside of ambulatory care for residents to explore which is another bonus of the program. I look forward to this year at Novant Health and continuing to grow personally and professionally as an ambulatory care pharmacist.

Brenae Wilson, PharmD

School of Pharmacy: University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy – Columbia, SC
Area of interest: Ambulatory Care, Diabetes, Academia
Research project: Connecting patients to prescription assistance programs (PAP) for antihyperglycemics: effects on clinical outcomes
Why Novant: I was drawn to Novant Health because of the abundance of opportunities within ambulatory care and the strong focus on that area of pharmacy within this residency program. There are many pharmacists embedded in primary care clinics throughout Winston-Salem, NC, through Novant Health. That’s where I see myself in the future, so this was a great opportunity to get hands on experience in that area. Additionally, Novant Health has an ongoing relationship with various pharmacy schools in the area which helped me explore my interest in academia and really participate in the education of future pharmacists.
One thing you like to do in Winston-Salem: I love checking out all the restaurants here! It’s a great way to get out and have fun with my co-resident while exploring this new city.
