Research Project: Evaluation of comprehensive medication management expansion in diabetic population to reach HgA1c targets and reduce pharmacy spend
Why Novant: The variety of unique rotational opportunities in ambulatory care settings, as well as the great degree of flexibility to mold one’s rotational experience, were among the leading reasons why Novant Health stood out from the rest. The warm and passionate preceptors that are heavily invested in developing their residents to become proficient healthcare providers further emphasized Novant’s dedication to its residents. Being part of a large healthcare system allows residents to develop a diverse variety of mentors that can help nurture and advance their professional and career goals. I look forward to continuing to develop my skills and confidence this upcoming year and becoming a more competent and well-rounded clinical pharmacist.

Madeline Pryor, PharmD

School of Pharmacy: University of New England College of Pharmacy – Portland, ME
Area of interest: Ambulatory care, transitions of care
Research project: Evaluation of evidence-based blood pressure goals in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in primary care clinics
Why Novant: One of the primary reasons I chose Novant Health was the variety of rotations offered with a significant focus in primary care. I was drawn to the program initially because of the ambulatory care focus, which is a unique opportunity to experience as a first year resident. Additionally, Novant Health has pharmacists working in numerous specialized clinics, with the opportunity for residents to experience a number of them. This program also includes rotations throughout the continuum of care, which will allow me to interact with diverse patients in several clinical settings. This, combined with the supportive environment and mentorship from experienced pharmacists, will ultimately allow me to become a confident clinical pharmacist. I look forward to working at Novant Health and continuing my growth as an aspiring ambulatory care pharmacist.
