Careers Pharmacy internship Primary Site Locations

The purpose of the Novant Health Pharmacy Internship Program is to provide second year pharmacy students with an opportunity to experience various aspects of pharmacy services in a large health system. Pharmacy interns will interact with various pharmacists and leaders in each location to gain exposure to pharmacy practice in a large health system. Prospective interns may apply to one or more program location included below:

 Presbyterian Medical Center

Cinical Specialty: Administration/pharmacy operations

Presbyterian Medical Center: The pharmacy intern will have ample learning opportunities within pharmacy operations. The intern will gain exposure to behind-the-scenes activities that help ensure remarkable patient care. Additionally interns will be exposed to regulatory compliance, finances and budgets, human resource concerns, and project management in addition to clinical pharmacy and key transitions of care services.

Projects: Learning pharmacy workflow and the range of patient populations we serve, participation in leader meetings, participation in safety debriefs and process improvements, orientation to pharmacy department processes, practice changes or modifications for regulatory compliance.

Specialty Pharmacy Services, Administration

Specialty Pharmacy: This internship program presents an array of opportunities to delve into the Specialty Pharmacy space. The student will have exposure and learning opportunities ranging from the processes of operations, clinical programs, management, procurement, and accreditations. Exposure to several different areas of operations within Specialty pharmacy will add to a well-rounded experience within this service line.

Winston Salem Healthcare: This internship program will allow students to experience pharmacy operations, automation, dispensing and verification, patient counseling, and other duties common to community pharmacy practice. The student will interact with pharmacists and leaders in various outpatient and ambulatory settings. Inpatient activities to further diversify the learning experience may also be available for interested interns.

Projects: New drug education, MTM, projects coordinated with Manager based on need and/or interest.

 Forsyth Medical Center

Pharmacy Management/Operations

Forsyth Medical Center: The internship program at Forsyth Medical Center will allow the individual exposure to longitudinal experiences in medication reconciliation both on admission and discharge, discharge counseling and expansion of ED services. The intern will have the opportunity to help set his or her goals to experience pharmacy services in a wide variety of clinical areas. Additionally, this individual will be exposed to daily pharmacy operations as well as pharmacy management.
