The pastoral care services at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center are here to provide you and your family the spiritual and emotional support you need. Pastoral care is a ministry of care and counseling provided by pastors, chaplains and other religious leaders. We support all religious beliefs and provide multi-faith support and guidance whenever you need it.

Chaplaincy services

When you are going through a difficult time, we understand the importance of meeting all your needs, including those that are spiritual. Our chaplains will help meet you and your family's spiritual needs during a hospital visit, particularly in critical times of need. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you do not have a pastor and need a chaplain, call or email Chaplain James Cook at 704-210-5049.

Student internships and volunteer chaplaincy

Our chaplaincy student internship and volunteer program provides participants education and clinical experience in a hospital setting. These two programs are open to self-directed college students and seminary/divinity school attendees.

Interns will participate in real-life case studies involving loss and grief, ethical problems and spiritual issues faced in pastoral and counseling roles. After you've enrolled in this program, you will gain real-life experience while integrating health-crisis support into your spiritual foundation.

For more information on the chaplaincy internship, call 704-210-5049.

Congregation health ministries and promoters

The congregational health ministries at Rowan Medical Center is the holistic care of mind, body and spirit provided by religious leaders to faith community members. This gives churches the opportunity to present their congregation with health-related and educational resources.

The congregational health promoter works with leaders in the faith community to help identify specific needs of their congregation. They will use their expertise and resources to promote healthy living to their congregation. We also provide a training session that teaches participants how to start a health ministry, survey a congregation to determine health needs and develop a health committee.
