Novant Health Rowan Medical Center laboratory is accredited by The Joint Commission for The Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and The College College of American Pathologists. Periodic review of this accreditation is completed by these agencies, and participation in the accreditation process helps provide continuous high quality laboratory testing. Daily control systems are in place to provide ongoing monitoring of testing.

The laboratory is staffed around the clock, seven days a week – according to patient needs. The department is computerized and provides electronic test requisitions and reports data via the hospital and laboratory computer systems. The Laboratory Test Catalog, or Directory of Services, can be accessed by clicking here. Barcode labeling of samples is employed in an effort to reduce specimen-identification errors. Laboratory staff and pathologists are available for consultation.

The Laboratory Medical Director works with three additional pathologists in the direction of the laboratory. Each pathologist is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology; all are fellows of The College of American Pathologists.

The medical director, laboratory administrative director, laboratory technical and non-technical managers comprise the administrative staff of the laboratory. Each section of the laboratory is headed by the technical coordinator or supervisory technologist, who supervises technical and administrative functions of that section.
