Through telemedicine,
you have access to the neurology experts at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, a nationally-certified, award-winning stroke program. This service is available 24/7 in an emergency or for ongoing treatment of a stroke, brain aneurysm, concussion, brain tumor and epilepsy.

If you or a loved one comes to us with a suspected stroke, our own round-the-clock stroke team will swing into action, make a solid diagnosis and begin the appropriate treatment right away.

The following links below provide more information about our stroke care program.

Emergency treatment for stroke
Call 911 at the first sign of a stroke.
F-A-S-T is an easy way to remember three warning signs of a stroke and what to do:

  • F – Facial paralysis
  • A – Arm weakness
  • S – Speech difficulties
  • T – “Time to call 911”

Do not ignore these warning signs, even if they go away. Stroke is a serious medical emergency and time can make a huge difference in your outcome.

Similar symptoms may indicate other medical problems, including a transient ischemic attack, (TIA). These “mini-strokes” are also very serious. Call 911 for help. Our experts can do a TIA evaluation to determine your level of risk for stroke in the future, and work with you to lower than risk.

Stroke Bridge Clinic

If you are well enough to leave the hospital, but still face serious cognitive or physical challenges, our dedicated team will help you transition from hospital to home.

Stroke navigator services

We’re with you every step of the way on your recovery journey. A stroke navigator can help coordinate your follow-up care and give you the support and knowledge you need to understand your condition. Call the stroke navigator at 336-718-7229.

Neuroscience services

In addition to stroke, our neuroscience services, listed below, cover many other brain and movement disorders. Please follow the links for more information.

Rehabilitation

If stroke or another neurological condition has left you or a loved one affected by physical, speech and cognition deficits, our multidisciplinary rehabilitation team can help.

Alzheimer’s disease and dementia

Dementia involves difficulty with at least two brain functions such as memory loss and impaired language. Our goal is to give you or your loved one an accurate diagnosis and provide the care and support you and your family need to cope with this life-changing illness.

Brain aneurysms

A brain aneurysm occurs when part of an artery wall weakens and swells. Symptoms include:

  • Sudden, severe headache that is different from past headaches
  • Severe neck pain
  • Blurred vision
  • Confusion or loss of consciousness
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Nausea with vomiting
  • Seizures

If you or a loved one experiences these symptoms, call 911 immediately. If an aneurysm ruptures, it is a life-threatening medical emergency.

Concussions and brain trauma

A blow to your head can cause a concussion, which often results in headache, confusion, dizziness or other symptoms, which might show up right away or days or even weeks later. If the symptoms are pronounced you may want to visit our emergency department or a Novant Health physician.

Headaches and migraines

At Kernersville Medical Center, we can diagnose and care for headaches, including migraines, cluster headaches and tension headaches. If you’re 50 or older and get a new kind headache you’ve never had before, consult a physician.

Back and neck problems

Epilepsy and seizures
At Kernersville Medical Center, we have experience diagnosing and caring for people who suffer from epilepsy and seizures, which occur because of surges of electrical activity in the brain. We can help you achieve a better quality of life. If you suffer from epilepsy or seizures, you may benefit from an evaluation in our world-class epilepsy monitoring unit.

Diagnostic testing

Our physicians, nurses and technicians specialize in advanced imaging and diagnostic tests for neurological disorders and injuries. You’ll need a physician referral for most tests.
