Compassionate care for you and your family during your time of need
Providing care for a loved one who is sick and can no longer look after themselves can be one of the biggest challenges your family has to face. These conditions can arise from old age, severe illness or crippling injuries, but regardless of the cause, we believe that no family should have to face these challenges alone.
Our hospice and palliative care services provide a wide range of services and caregiving that can help you and your loved one when it is needed the most. Comfort, compassion and dignity are at the forefront of the care we provide, and we are here to help you every step of the way.
Hospice - Our hospice care specialists provide care for terminally-ill patients and their families. We know how sensitive these times may be, and our goal is to provide you and your family with effective healthcare that will improve the quality of a patient’s last days.
We provide an individualized treatment plan to comfortably manage pain and physical symptoms of each need you may have. Our team is made of doctors, nurses, medical social workers, chaplains, grief counselors, and volunteers that work together to help you or a family member live life as comfortably and fulfilled as possible. The hospice care team meets weekly to discuss each case to ensure we are doing everything we can to meet your needs.
Palliative care - We provide palliative care that specializes in advanced medical care if you or a loved one is diagnosed with a serious illness. This care focuses on providing relief from the symptoms, pain and stress associated with your specific illness. Our specialists are here to help improve the quality of life for you and your family.
Our palliative care team is made up of doctors, registered nurses, medical social workers, chaplains and dieticians. Staff members evaluate each patient and answer questions that you or a caregiver may have about the treatment options and medical care decisions that occur with life-threatening illnesses. Each of our members is specially trained to handle any need or issue you may have.
Home healthcare - We recognize the benefits of treating people in their own homes when they don’t need the full resources of a hospital. That’s why we offer home healthcare services that can help you or a loved one transition from inpatient care to the home. We provide access to skilled nurses, home care professionals, prescription medication, home equipment and extended monitoring. We provide modern healthcare in the comfort of your own home.
Inpatient hospice care - Our inpatient hospice care service is designed to help you and your family if you have recently been released from inpatient care but still require the full resources of a hospital. The Harris hospice unit is a short-stay facility located on the Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center campus. Our specialists work to stabilize symptoms and provide you and your family with support. We help your family learn how to provide the necessary hospice care at home while still providing the guidance and support of our staff in the hospital. Our coordinated-team approach can help you with your transition back home.
Volunteers - Volunteers are an important part of our hospice team. Each volunteer receives extensive training from our healthcare staff that equips him or her with the tools to work closely with you and your family during your time in need. Some volunteers give the gift of music; others lend their talents to flower arranging, hair styling or pet therapy. Many simply provide the gift of time—to sit with patients while family members take a couple of hours for a much-needed break.

Support services - Grief is a normal reaction to losing a loved one and everyone experiences these feelings in a different way. Our focus is not to tell you how to grieve, but rather to give you the information and support you need to cope with your feelings in a healthy way. Some of the support services we may provide include:
- Grief support services
- Bereavement support groups
- Spiritual care
- Prayer ministry
