Specialized heart and vascular care
Sometimes, you might need more specialized care for a heart or vascular condition. At Novant Health, our experienced and dedicated teams use an integrated approach to deliver the most advanced care to you and your loved ones. Each of our centers of specialty care connects you with the region’s leading heart and vascular experts, who have access to the most advanced technology available.
These specialty services are offered at some of our locations.
Aortic center – At our aortic center in Charlotte, nationally recognized vascular surgeons and specially trained vascular nurses care for patients with diseases of the aorta, including abdominal aortic aneurysm, thoracic aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection.
From diagnosis to surgery to follow-up care, we’ll work hard to find the best treatment option for you so that you can return to your daily routine as quickly as possible. We perform leading-edge surgical procedures in our hybrid operating room – the first in the region dedicated to aortic and vascular care. More than 80 percent of the surgeries we perform are done with minimally invasive techniques. That means shorter hospital stays, smoother recoveries and better health after surgery.
Arrhythmia center – Our state-of-the-art arrhythmia center in Charlotte uses a team approach to treating patients with abnormal heart rhythms, including everything from heart flutters to more serious conditions such as atrial fibrillation.
Your heart care team will include electro-physiologists, cardiologists and nurses. They will work together with your primary care physician and other physicians to find the cause of your arrhythmia and recommend the best course of treatment for you. Treatments at the arrhythmia center can range from dietary changes – some as simple as eliminating caffeine – to medications and surgery.
Cardiac imaging – All of our locations offer the region’s most advanced cardiac imaging available to diagnose your heart condition and help your physician choose the best course of treatment. We offer everything from basic imaging technology using X-rays and ultrasound to advanced computer-assisted, three-dimensional modeling that provides extraordinarily-detailed views of the heart.
Chest pain centers – Our accredited chest pain centers offer the most advanced diagnostic tools, rapid response treatments, and highly skilled cardiac physicians, who aim to identify a heart attack quickly and stop it in its tracks. Our heart attack care consistently ranks in the top 10 percent in the nation, making Novant Health one of the best places you can go for life-saving heart attack care.
Novant Health was one of the first in the Charlotte region to open a chest pain center in its emergency department to diagnose and treat heart attacks. Our staff is specially trained to recognize heart attacks at the earliest sign and has the latest technology for treating heart attacks.
By coming to one of our chest pain emergency departments at the first sign of a heart attack, you can significantly improve your chance for survival and a healthy recovery.
Endovascular operating suite – We have the Charlotte region's first endovascular operating suite. This innovative facility makes minimally invasive as well as open vascular procedures possible in one place so that you receive complete care without ever having to be moved.
Heart disease and cancer – Cardiac complications from cancer treatment can include:
- Heart failure
- High blood pressure
- Irregular heartbeat
- Ischemic (small-vessel) disease
To better understand, prevent and treat the effects of cancer therapy on the cardiovascular system, the cardiologists at Novant Health Heart and Vascular Institute and the oncologists at Novant Health Cancer Center have developed a unique cross-specialty program called cardio-oncology.
Combining the training and experience of each specialty, the cardio-oncology program focuses on:
- Caring for patients with heart disease currently being treated for cancer
- Caring for patients whose cancer treatment is causing heart problems
- Protecting the heart health of cancer patients and survivors
- Creating cancer treatment plans that reduce the risk of heart problems
- Researching new cancer treatments that are less harmful to the heart
Valve clinic – The valve clinics in Charlotte and Winston-Salem are designed to provide highly specialized treatment for heart valve disorders. Our valve clinic team brings together physicians from a wide range of specialties, including cardiologists, radiologists, surgeons, electro-physiologists and primary care physicians, to identity the treatment that will be most effective for you or your loved one. Your team of physicians will meet to discuss your specific condition, review possible treatments from across many specialties and devise an individualized care plan that includes medications, surgical options and therapies to speed recovery and improve your quality of life.
