Treating diabetes through knowledge
If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, there may be lifestyle changes you’ll need to make or medications your doctor will recommend to help control your symptoms. At Novant Health, our diabetes experts are here to help you understand your options and provide the care you need.
If you are suffering from diabetes, it may help to know that you are not alone. Diabetes affects nearly one in 20 Americans. While detection and medical treatment are two of the most important steps in providing care for diabetes, we believe that knowledge is the most powerful prescription for reducing the complications of this disease.
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a condition where your pancreas is unable to produce insulin or does not effectively use the insulin that is produced. Insulin is a hormone that is secreted from your pancreas. It removes glucose, or sugar, from your blood and delivers it to your body's cells for fuel.
