Creating a wellness epidemic
Half of all Americans have at least one chronic illness. We believe through helping people identify and reduce risk factors, we can create a wellness epidemic, enabling people to live longer and spend more time doing things they enjoy with the people they love.
Since 2010, Novant Health has led a “search and rescue” mission to find patients with undetected diabetes who were admitted to our hospitals for other reasons. To date, we've screened more than 150,000 people and diagnosed 6,000 with diabetes. We're not stopping there. We're expanding our focus to tackle the underlying causes of chronic disease to help prevent life-threatening conditions before they have a chance to develop.
As part of Novant Health's first system-wide community wellness initiative, we are committing to screening 500,000 people for prediabetes, obesity and high blood pressure in 2014. With this bold initiative, we will reach out to our neighbors where they work and live, and in our clinics to help pave a path for wellness.
