questions before you arrive. Below, you can find answers to
frequently asked questions, including information on what you should
bring to the hospital, where to park, and how best to prepare your
child before arriving.

should we bring to the hospital?
Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital provides many resources and
amenities for our patients and families, you will likely want to
bring a few items from home to make your stay more comfortable.
Please bring any items from home that your child wants or uses
regularly – especially for infants. Here are some items that we
recommend all families bring:
Your health insurance
- Any current medications that your child is taking
and/or robe (hospital gowns are provided but many children feel
more comfortable in their own pajamas)
socks and/or slippers
hairbrush and other toiletries
contact lenses and other eye care supplies
stuffed animals, toys, pacifiers or other comfort items for your
ensure that your child’s name is on all personal items to avoid
them being misplaced. We recommend that all valuables,
including cash and jewelry, be left at home.
I need to give consent for treatment for my child?
you will need to fill out documents before any medical treatment is
provided to your child. This paperwork is very important and
we ask that you read and understand everything thoroughly before
answering as this information will be used to help us determine the
best approach for treating your child. It includes information
about allergies, current medications, health history, insurance,
emergency contacts, and more. A member of the Hemby Children's Hospital team will explain these documents once you

can bring a cot or reclining chair with linens into your child’s
room so you can stay comfortably. For your convenience, each
hospital room has a private bathroom, television, microwave and
refrigerator. If you leave your child alone, please tell a
nurse with the best way for us to reach you in case of an emergency.

If you are scheduled for admission
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., you and your child can come
directly to Hemby Children's Hospital to be admitted. Hemby
Children’s Hospital is located on the second floor of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. You can park in the visitor’s
parking deck at the corner of Hawthorne Lane and Caswell Road. From there,
follow the signs to the dedicated Hemby Children’s Hospital
elevator. Please check in at the nurses’ station after
arriving and they will direct you from there.
your child is admitted outside of these hours, you may go
to Presbyterian Medical Center Children’s Emergency Department (entrance
off Caswell Road, between Randolph Road and 5th
Street), and they will direct you accordingly.

experts in the field of pediatrics and have received specific
training in caring for children. We understand that children
have different needs than adults and we are highly qualified and
prepared to meet these unique needs. To look up the specific

child’s physician, visit our physician finder. Hemby Children's Hospital is also nationally recognized for high quality and has received many awards for
our dedication to pediatric excellence.
are the visiting hours at Hemby Children’s Hospital?

Children's Hospital floor. Our other pediatric areas, including
the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU, have a few additional restrictions for the safety

note that the Hemby Children's Hospital elevators
located in the north wing lobby are closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to
decrease the noise and allow our patients to rest more comfortably.
If you are visiting during these hours, please take the “B”
elevators located off of the main lobby to the second floor.
do I park during our stay at Hemby Children's Hospital?
can park in the Presbyterian Medical Center visitor’s parking deck
at the corner of Hawthorne Lane and 5th Street. Once you
enter the hospital through the north wing lobby, take the dedicated
Hemby Children’s Hospital elevator to the second floor. From
there, check in at the nurses’ station and enter into Hemby Children's Hospital’s special environment.
cost for parking in the parking deck is $3.00
and you can enter and exit as many times as you need (you will be
given a receipt to show to the cashier). You can also purchase
a 5-day pass for $10.00 (a savings of $5.00) to use during your stay.
