Hemby Children's Hospital Go

Discharge

What to expect when it’s time to leave the hospital

When your child is admitted to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center or Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital, you will be asked questions to help the healthcare team identify if your child will need additional assistance after being discharged. We will work with you, your family and the physician to plan for the discharge during the entire time your child is in the hospital.

If you have concerns about how to manage your child’s recovery after he or she is discharged, please call

704-384-4277

Your physician will determine when your child is ready to go home and will provide you with written authorization of discharge. At that time, your physician or nurse will review any instructions for follow-up care with you. You will receive a copy of these instructions.

Discharge time is approximately 11 a.m. Your discharge plan may include information about:

  • Medications
  • Foods to avoid with certain medicines
  • Use of equipment
  • Available community services
  • Care of your incision
  • Activities of daily living
  • Safety measures
  • Follow-up appointments and care
  • Special diet
  • Activity
  • Pain management
  • Financial concerns
  • Lifestyle changes
