When you are receiving inpatient care at our facility, it will often be administered by specialists known as hospitalists. These hospital-based physicians bring an increased level of experience and training to assure you are well cared for.
What is a hospitalist?
A hospitalist is an internal medicine doctor who specializes in inpatient medical care. Typically, your family doctor will have a hospitalist care for you while you are receiving inpatient treatment. Once treatment is complete, the hospitalist will help you transition back to your family doctor.
If you do not have a primary care physician, the hospitalist can care for you during your stay. Once you are discharged from the hospital, the hospitalist can refer you to a primary care physician for further treatments.
Gaffney Medical Center’s hospitalists serve you in a variety of ways, including:
Assess and treat your medical condition throughout your stay
Coordinate your hospital care including diagnostic tests such as x-rays, blood tests or other procedures
Arrange specialty care including therapy or consults with other specialists
Transition your medical care back to your physician who will resume responsibility after discharge
