Forsyth Medical Center

Institutional Review Board

In 1974, the Public Health Services (now U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) required that all institutions conducting research create an ethics board or Institutional Review Board (IRB) to govern the research done at that institution.

The Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center IRB conducts reviews for all research done by NCRI. On some occasions, FMC IRB will defer review to another IRB in a collaborative arrangement.

Forsyth Medical Center IRB meets on the first Thursday of each month. Approvals are available within one week following the meeting. Submission deadline is 10 days prior to the scheduled meeting. FMC-IRB will defer to central IRBs on a case-by-case basis determined by the risk profile of the study.
