The Joint Commission accreditation

Forsyth Medical Center has been fully accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC). TJC accreditation involves evaluating a healthcare organization's performance in areas that most affect patient health and safety. To earn and maintain accreditation, we participate in extensive on-site reviews by a team of TJC healthcare professionals on a regular schedule.

National Stroke Care Certification

Forsyth Medical Center received the national Stroke Care Certification from The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). The designation is awarded to facilities that demonstrate excellence in healthcare quality and meet the strict national standards set by JCAHO and the American Stroke Association.

Nationally-accredited stroke rehab program

In 2007, Novant Health Rehabilitation Center (formerly Forsyth Medical Center Whitaker Rehabilitation Center) received a three-year national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for the Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital Stroke Specialty Program and the Inpatient Rehabilitation Program-Hospital Adult. Whitaker Rehabilitation is affiliated with and located on the campus of Forsyth Medical Center. CARF Accreditation means Whitaker Rehabilitation meets rigorous international standards of patient satisfaction and is committed to excellence in stroke care.

Magnet Nursing recognition

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) awarded the nursing program at Forsyth Medical Center for its excellence and quality in nursing care by naming it with Magnet Recognition. Only five percent of all hospitals nationwide have earned this high honor, which recognizes facilities that provide the highest level of nursing care. Learn More about the ANCC.

Nationally-certified Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program

Forsyth Medical Center's Total Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program is the first in the Carolinas to be certified by The Joint Commission. We are honored to receive this recognition and remain dedicated to delivering remarkable total hip and knee care to our patients.

Nationally-certified heart failure program

Novant Health Heart & Vascular Institute (formerly Forsyth Cardiac & Vascular Center) is honored to receive national certification from The Joint Commission. Our patients benefit from shorter hospital stays, fewer readmissions and lead healthier lives.

Accredited Chest Pain Center

Forsyth Medical Center has received the national designation of Cycle IV Accredited Chest Pain Center from the Society of Chest Pain Centers, a highly-respected, independent organization that evaluates hospitals. 

Forsyth Medical Center joined Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte in being affiliated with Cleveland Clinic, the nation's number one heart-care program for 18 consecutive years, according to U.S. News & World Report. 

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has awarded Forsyth Medical Center a 3-star rating for heart surgery—their highest rating level. This honor places Forsyth Medical Center in the top 12 percent of all cardiac surgery programs in the nation. 

Forsyth Medical Center was the first in North Carolina to earn heart failure certification and, later, advanced heart failure certification from The Joint Commission.

National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)

Forsyth Medical Center's Breast Center has been granted a three-year / full-accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only awarded to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest-level quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
