Our Patients, Families and Visitors
Care for the Poor and Uninsured
Because of our not-for-profit mission, Novant Health neonatal intensive care units, critical care units, cancer treatment centers, emergency rooms and other essential medical programs treat everyone, regardless of the person's ability to pay. As a result, we do not receive many of our fees from people who struggle to pay their bills. We work with individuals to help qualify them for public assistance, establish a reasonable payment plan, discount their bill to reflect their personal resources or provide them with free charity care.
Novant Health and all of its hospitals offer four patient financial assistance programs: 1)charity care for low income patients; 2)discount for the uninsured; 3)catastrophic discount and; 4)flexible payment plan. Learn More
In addition to our hospitals, the Novant Medical Group physician practices provide financial assistance to needy patients.
Interpreters
Free language interpreters are available for our patients and visitors who are limited English proficient. Free sign language and oral interpreters, TTY's and other services are available to deaf and hard-of-hearing persons. In addition, we prioritize recruiting clinicians who know other languages. In one of our communities, new physicians recently joined our medical group who speak Greek, French, Spanish, Vietnamese and Japanese.
Today's Woman Health & Wellness Center
This center was opened by Forsyth Medical Center in 1995 and embodies a grassroots, holistic approach to improving the health of women and children. The Center provides obstetrical and gynecological primary care, pediatric care, health education and support services to families in targeted neighborhoods where people are at-risk of not getting necessary healthcare. The Center's goal is to reduce premature births and infant mortality rates. Novant Health subsidizes this important community resource. Learn More
Emergency Medical Care for AIDS patients
Physicians of the Novant Medical Group clinics often provide community services that would not be possible unless they were supported by the not-for-profit mission of the health system. For instance, a Novant physician practice in Winston-Salem supports the Forsyth Medical Center Emergency Room doctors and staff in efforts to provide care to uninsured and homeless AIDS patients. Without this physician group's support, the ER staff could not offer adequate care to these at-risk patients. And without Novant's support, the physician group would not have the resources to provide this very specialized service.
Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser
This 40-foot medical clinic-on-wheels and its hospital staff combat healthcare discrepancies among underserved children across the region and provide primary and preventive pediatric medical care. 2008 was its first full year of operation. The Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser and its clinical staff have logged thousands of miles, treated thousands of patients, administered thousands of immunizations and provided important referrals to other community resources and agencies.
