Small steps can make a big difference in your risk for diabetes.
Take this test and know your risk of being one of the estimated 33% of American adults with prediabetes.
In the United States, 25.8 million people, or 8.3 percent of the population, have diabetes. Of those, nearly 19 million have been diagnosed, while seven million are unaware they have the disease. More alarming is the estimated 79 million people in the United States who have prediabetes -- blood glucose and A1C levels that are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as a person with diabetes.
There are no clear symptoms of prediabetes, but many of those diagnosed with higher than normal blood glucose levels will go on to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes if lifestyle changes are not made. Small, but powerful, steps can drastically reduce your chances of developing diabetes -- just 30 minutes a day of exercise can make a difference.
