Carl S. Armato - President &
Chief Executive Officer, Novant Health.
Carl Armato is the president and chief executive officer for Novant Health. Since joining Novant in 1998 as the vice president of finance and operations for the physician divisions in both Charlotte and Winston-Salem, Armato has also served as senior vice president of materials management and logistics for Novant Health. In 2003, Presbyterian Healthcare appointed Armato as chief operating officer and then promoted him to president and chief executive officer in January 2004. In 2008, the health system promoted him to president of Novant markets and in 2011 as chief operating officer.
Prior to joining Novant, Armato was vice president of operations for First Care Physicians and director of finance for the General Health System in Baton Rouge, LA. He was also a senior tax/audit consultant for Ernst & Young in the Baton Rouge office. Armato holds a bachelors degree in business administration - accounting from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and a masters degree in business administration from Norwich University of Vermont.
He is a certified public accountant licensed in Louisiana and North Carolina. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the North Carolina Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Armato also serves as the 2011 board chair for the Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education.

Herb W. Clegg, MD - President
Novant Medical Group.
Herb Clegg, MD, serves as president of Novant Medical Group (NMG). Previous roles include serving as chief of the Presbyterian Novant Medical Group (PNMG), division of pediatrics, and chief of the department of pediatrics for Presbyterian's Hemby Children's Hospital. He's been a member of NMG since joining Eastover Pediatrics in 1994.
Dr. Clegg received an undergraduate degree with honors from Davidson College and a medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his pediatrics residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, after which he spent two years as an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control. After a year as chief resident, he completed a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at Children's Hospital in Boston. He is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases.
Dr. Clegg is a past president of the North Carolina Pediatric Society. He has also served on the boards for Youth Homes and Myers Park Trinity Little League where he has coached baseball and softball for the past 20 years. Clinical epidemiology, office-based research, teaching and practice management are areas of focus for Dr. Clegg. Current projects include the development of patient centered medical homes and developing a Novant system for clinical research.

Jacqueline R. Daniels - Executive Vice President &
Chief Administrative Officer.
Jacque Daniels is chief administrative officer for Novant Health, overseeing human resources, information technology, marketing and public relations, enterprise program management office, government relations, real estate and construction as well as supply chain.
Prior to accepting her current role in 2004, Daniels served in a variety of managerial positions within human resources, including senior vice president, director of benefits and compensation, and recruitment and personnel manager for the physician division in the Winston-Salem region. She began her career at Novant in 1982 as a medical technologist and clinical educator in the pathology department for Forsyth Medical Center.
Daniels holds an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and master's in business administration from Wake Forest University. She is also certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources.
She is active within the North Carolina Hospital Association and serves on the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce Board and Executive Committee. Over the years, she has also been an active volunteer and held several leadership positions with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Forsyth County.

Fred M. Hargett - Executive Vice President &
Chief Financial Officer.
Fred Hargett is Novant Health's chief financial officer. He joined the health system in 2003 and most recently served as executive vice president of finance for Novant. Prior to that, Hargett held the position of senior vice president of financial planning for our health system.
Before joining Novant Health, Hargett served as manager of healthcare consulting at Ernst & Young in Charlotte, NC. At Ernst & Young, he led engagements in strategic planning, business development and financial forecasting.
Hargett graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in public health, a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and a Master of Accounting degree from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He is a certified public accountant licensed in North Carolina. In addition, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Sallye A. Liner, RN - Executive Vice President &
Chief Clinical Officer.
Sallye Liner, RN, is the chief clinical officer for Novant Health. She leads our innovation around how we deliver seamless patient care across the continuum - from our hospitals to outpatient centers to physician practices.
After graduating from nursing school, Liner started her career as a nurse in the ICU. She joined Forsyth Memorial Hospital in 1976 as a clinical nurse educator and over the years, moved into positions in critical care management and nursing administration. In 1997, Liner became chief operating officer of Forsyth Medical Center. She was named hospital president and chief operating officer for the Winston-Salem market in 2008 and assumed her current role in 2010.
Liner holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from East Tennessee State University and a Master of Science in nursing administration. She is also a graduate of the Wharton Nurse Executive program.
The Winston-Salem community has benefited from Liner's leadership over the years, as she has served on task forces and boards for Winston-Salem State University, University of North Carolina Greensboro Bryan School of Business, North Carolina Stroke Association, The Arts Council of Forsyth County and as 2009-2010 President of the Winston-Salem Rotary Club. Liner was also instrumental in founding the Women's Leadership Council for the United Way and served as its first chair. She is a member of the boards of directors for the North Carolina Hospital Association, United Way, Forsyth Futures, the Winston-Salem Alliance, Piedmont Triad Partnership and Providence Health and Services. She is also serving this community as the 2011 campaign chair for the United Way of Forsyth County.

John D. Phipps, MD - President
Novant Medical Group.
John Phipps, MD, is president of Novant Medical Group as well as a practicing physician at Forsyth Endocrine Consultants.
Dr. Phipps joined Novant Health in 1998 as an endocrinologist at Forsyth Internal Medicine and Forsyth Endocrine Consultants. Over the years, he has served in a variety of leadership roles across Novant Medical Group.
A native of Winston-Salem, Dr. Phipps graduated with high distinction from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in interdisciplinary studies. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and a varsity athlete. He received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he was a Fullerton Foundation Scholar and member of Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Phipps trained in internal medicine at UNC Hospitals and completed a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center. Dr. Phipps is board certified in endocrinology and internal medicine.
Dr. Phipps is a member of multiple medical organizations including the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the Endocrine Society and the American College of Physician Executives among others. He volunteers at the Community Care Clinic in Winston-Salem and has a passion for medical missions, having traveled many times to Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Stephen L. Wallenhaupt, MD - Executive Vice President &
Chief Medical Officer.
Stephen L. Wallenhaupt, MD, serves as Novant Health's chief medical officer. From 2001-2006 he served as the executive vice president for medical affairs of Presbyterian Healthcare in the Charlotte area. He is a board certified cardiothoracic surgeon and formerly a partner of Hawthorne Cardiovascular Surgeons in Charlotte from 1993-2001.
Dr. Wallenhaupt was assistant professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine from 1985-1993. He received his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University in 1978. He is a member of multiple medical organizations including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, American College of Chest Physicians, American Medical Association, American College of Physician Executives and the North Carolina Medical Society. He is on the Medical Alumni Association Board of Wake Forest University School of Medicine and a member of the Wake Forest Charlotte Executive Board.
